Since December, I've been training for the country's largest cycling event - the Sea Otter Classic at Laguna Seca Raceway. 10k participants. 600 medal winners. 5 days of pure biking awesomeness.
Practice and qualifying went well. I qualified first by three seconds among 25 riders in Dual Slalom Cat 2 30-39. Comparing results to the next class up (Cat 1 experts), I would have qualified second by just half a second. A very unexpected outcome.
Raceday started off in classic Monterey style with thick fog and 25ft visibility. With the field now narrowed to a round of 16, I transferred through each set of heats to the finals. Focus. Focus.
I won both rounds of the final by a solid margin and topped the podium that afternoon.
