After scoring the win at the 2012 Sea Otter Classic, I was "encouraged" by USA Cycling to move from Cat 2 (sport) to Cat 1 (expert) prior to the National Championships.
With only three months of prep time, I knew my work was cut out for me. The competition included some of the fastest guys I've ever raced against. Most of the field are factory sponsored BMX racers.
I qualified 5th and finished 5th overall in my age group. Roughly where I thought I would. The race weekend showed me key areas to focus my training efforts for the next 12 months. Cornering, jumping, and overall fitness.
